Metals are crystalline when in the solid state and, with few exceptions (e,g,.mercury),are solid at ambient temperatures. They are good conductors of heart and electricity and are opaque to light. They usually have a comparatively high density. Many metals are ductile — that is,their shape can be changed permanently by the application of a force without breaking. The forces required to cause this deformation and those required finally to break or fracture a metal are comparatively high, the fracture forces is not nearly as high as would be expected from simple considerations of the forces required to tear apart atoms of the metal.
The word automatic implies that there is a certain amount of sophistication in the control system.By automatic,it generally means that the system is usually capable of adapting to a variety of operating conditions and is able to respond to a class of inputs satisfactorily. However, not any type of control system has the automatic feature.Usually, the automatic feature is achieved by feeding the output variable back and comparing it with the command signal. When a system does not have the feedback structure,it is called an open-loop system, which is the simplest and most economical type of control system.Unfortunately,open-loop control system lack accuracy and versatility and can be used in none but the siplest types pf applications.
Comparisons were made in three categories:basic research, advanced development, and product implementation.Except for machine vision and software,Japanese basic research was comparable to the United States, with the Japanese closing in fast in machine vision system technology.Japanese artificial intelligence research is falling behind, primarily because the Japanese do not consider it an essential ingredient of their future systems. They appear capable of closing even that gap,if required. In the advanced development and product implementation areas, japan is equal to or better than the United States, and is continuing to pull ahead at this time.
