在中国,红色是最为典型的带有鲜明政治色彩的颜色词,它象征着革命、中国共产党、无产阶级和社会主义制度.如：红卫兵、根正苗红、又红又专、赤胆忠心干革命、红心永向红太阳等.而黑色则象征着反动、腐朽、没落的事物.如：黑五类、黑名单、黑帮子女、黑线人等.白色则意味着反革命.如：白色恐怖、白军、白区等.不难看出,这些以颜色寓意的政治术语与特定的政治背景、社会制度有很大关系.
而在西方,一些政党、派别、军队、组织是以颜色词命名的.虽然颜色也赋予了一定的政治含义,但并没有象我国这样泾渭分明.Red在英国英语中的政治象征意义是“共产党”或“左派激进分子”,含一定的贬义.如red under the bed （直译为“床下藏着赤色分子”）就反映了他们草木皆兵的恐惧心理,而 red-baiting 在美国口语中则指扣上赤色分子帽子进行迫害.

The Han nationality people look the red color as the main color, while the white color is the funeral costumes color. So there is a word “red and white happy things” in Chinese,(金山词霸中“红白事”的译法是“weddings and funerals” 为了和本文所谈内容相扣,还是直译为好!). Chinese people regard these two things as happy things of human life. Red is a happy color symbolizing good luck, and white is subject to the impact of the Buddhist “release souls from purgatory”, funeral family must wear white clothes , white cap and white belt to dedicate to the memory of the decedent, which is passed down by the Chinese customs.

In China, red is the most typical color with a distinct political flavor words, it symbolizes the revolution, the Chinese Communist Party, Proletariat, and the socialist system. Such as: the Red Guards, root seedlings are red, both red and professional, and loyal to join the revolution, such as Red Wing to the red sun. And black is a symbol of reactionary, decadent, declining things. Such as: five black classes, blacklisted, black gangsters children, black informers etc. White signifies counterrevolutionary. For instance: white terror, white army, white district etc. It is not difficult to see that these political terms which were attached by color have great relations with specific political background and social systems.
