9]3.In what ways can teacher and learner styles be expanded?
Expansion means change.Research shows that learning styles can change as a person grows.Learning styles also change in response to the learning environment and tasks assigned to the learner.However unless the teacher and the learner accept change eagerly and work to make it a habit,there will be no change.As Weaver (1996) pointed out,“Many college students with the hope that becoming a college student will improve them find that when they become college graduates,they do not look any different,only several years older”.
To change our routine behavior we need to reflect on our own experience,and identify areas for improvement.In reality there is a wide range of teaching styles.In China and in other countries as well,there are teachers who lecture extensively,or exclusively,while others use role?playing,group work,games,dramatizations,tasks and projects,and so forth.Styles should not be mutually exclusive.My view is that whatever styles the teacher employs,if they promote learning and help the learners become creative thinkers,they are good ones.And a good teacher may incorporate as diverse styles as possible.
