恩,逻辑上讲没有错.看以下句子.
He came without saying a word, his hands cold.
后面的一句话是对前面的补充,两者是一句话,所以后面的不能有动词.叫什么结构我忘了,反正my son still in school是对he doesn't work的补充（解释原因）,所以不能有is.
如果一定要加is中间要用分号.英语的这一点很烦人.
但是一般来说好像没有这么说话的,除非这是文学作品.
