He continued to run five miles a day,every day-even the day he had a high fever.I was worried, so I went to look for him after sxhool. I found him running all alone. I asked him how he felt. "Okay",he said. He had about two miles to go. The sweat ran down his face. Yet he looked straight ahead and kept running.
Two weeks later,the names of winners were known. Joey was number six on the list. Joey had made it. He was in the seventh grade-the other six tean menbers were all in the eighth grade. We never told him he shouldn't expect to win. But he made it.
