Ancient Chinese used Lunar Calendar,It’s different from sun calendar,that’s months reflect the lunar cycle
Ancient Chinese always set spring festival in this season that’s because after it,spring is coming,and people regarded it as the start of a new year
Before Chinese new year,people need to offer candy and other dessert,snacks to “the god of kitchen” (which is 灶王爷),to beg enough food next year.It’s a kind of little bribery~

Also,elder people will give kids money,which is covered by red paper,that’s called 红包,and kids will put it under the pillow,people believe it will keep kids save and make kids to grow faster~
