Civilization as we know it depends on the written word.Speech is of course primary to language.People were speaking for hundreds of thousands-perhaps millions-of years before writing was invented.Nonetheless,we should not underestimate the importance of writing.Most of our information about language,and certainly all of our information about the history of languages,is in writing.
The world is being rapidly transformed by science and technology in ways that have profound signifcance for our economic well-being and for a democratic society.We need to have a better understanding that writing should be viewed as a skill its own right.Of the four language skills,speaking and writing are categorized as the productive skills.Writing is more of an individual effort than speaking.The writing skill is exploited in many English text primarily as a tool for consolidating students’ oral command of English and for practicing grammar.Teachers should be aware that the skill of writing well in a second language is important and needs special attention.Students need instruction in and practice with research skill which can help them to make express their own ideas accurately.
This paper will help you have a good understanding of writing.It will discuss the importance of writing from two aspects:insight into writing and the reasons of studying and teaching writing.It also discuss the main effective way of improving writing ability,especially,in EFL classroom.I hope this paper will help teachers and students become writing lover.
