I have always had an interest in the way things work.When I was young,I kept a small
toolbox containing screwdrivers and pliers for myself,so that I could dismantle clocks and
Transformer toys.
I also enjoy science and I have gained a lot from Mathematics and Physics.Mathematics has
trained me to solve problems in logical and systematic approach,and physics enables me to
appreciate natural phenomena and adapt what I have learned to real life.
As I showed a lot of enthusiasm in maths and physics,I gained access to the Bridge building
Competition 2002 and The Tall and Beautiful Tower competition 2003.My team won the first prize among 70 teams for
both competitions.My team-mates and I worked hard and calculated the compression and stretch
on every beam on the bridge and tower.I eagerly took part in inter-school competitions,
because I enjoy applying what I had learned from books to the competitions.
I took part in the FIRST Robotic (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology)
competition last year,working alongside three other students.We purchased the components
and assembled them on our own.It was a rewarding and exciting experience.We emerged as the
1st runner-ups.Besides,I was also in the school Micromouse team,and I learned how to use
software such as MIGS900 (A mouse commanding software) to perform task of searching for goal
in a 16squares x 16squares maze.
I am the vice chairman of Mathematics society in my high school,and the quarter
master of Robotics Club.In these positions,I helped organise the weekly schedule of
activities,varying from project work to East Zone Robotic challenge and National
Inter-secondary Schools Maths Quiz.I believe that leadership quality is important for an
engineer doing a research with his team members.
I am applying to the this faculty because I would love to have the opportunity of studying with people
of different cultures and ideas.I am energized by the prospect of facing new challenge at
university,including working and living independently.I have the will and ability to
succeed and strive for excellence in the university
