1.蝇王的故事其实很简单,未来的一场战争毁掉了人类的和平.有一群孩子乘着飞机路过海上时发生了坠机事件并困在了一个荒岛上.最初孩子们齐心协力,共同应付随之而来的种种困难.但由于对"野兽"的恐惧使孩子们渐渐分裂成两派,代表理智与文明的一派与代表野性与原始的一派,最终爆发了两派中的矛盾.
2.最后当然是另外一个主角杰克,显然这是一个与前三者对立的人物；他代表着人性的恶其实也就是人的兽性、人类的非理性,杰克是教会唱诗班的领队,（这对基督教是一个讽刺,暗示了基督教的原罪说）,他高大却非常专制有着很强的欲望（主要是权利欲望）,他始终都在争夺领导权,但得不到信任,因为他明显不具有理性精神,他只凭本能非理性一味地要打猎,而不考虑是否要寻求得救,最终在所谓野兽的威胁下,他掠夺了领导权,实行了专制统治.
3.第三是细节和道具的象征.作为一部寓意小说,其中的细节和道具都有特定的意义：运载孩子们的飞机,猪崽仔的眼镜,以及后来出现的军舰等象征的是科学,但不幸的是飞机被炸毁,眼镜被打碎,这些代表的是人类的文明和理性,但是这些文明非但不能拯救人类却往往加速人类走向灭亡的命运.相反城堡岩、尖棍却是如此的坚挺,代表的是人类的野性,人类早期正是用这些野蛮的工具,相互撕毁着自身.至于小火堆和大火堆则更是明显,代表的是理性和非理性,文明和野蛮的对撞；更有意思的则是杰克的面具：人之所以为人,关键其实就在于人有一张脸,人类一旦带上了面具,人的兽性也就可以尽情地发泄暴露
