答案上是burning,但是我认为窗子,门等都是被火烧,应该用被动语态,应该是burned.

应该联系上下文,或许是因为是说当时房子在燃烧,如果用burned说明已经被烧了,还有就不用were 而是 had been.
还有当东西做主语时,可以拟人化运用动词,不要看到是物作主语就是用被动.
房子窗子在着火,动作本身发生的,而不是说房子被点燃的,强调的时是一种燃烧的状态.
