In today’s fast-paced,driven society,much emphasis is placed on the final result of an endeavor.Many cultures place a premium on success and have little tolerance for failures and losers.Within this cultural framework it sometimes becomes easy to immediately dismiss failures.However,value is not found only in success,which means the nominal “failure” may still have certain values.Therefore,if losers can absorb valuable experience from failures,everyone will be winner.
The United States,the first great democracy of the modern world,is also one of the best examples of a success achieved by studying and learning from earlier failures.After just five years of living under the Articles of Confederation,which established the United Stated of America as a single country for the first time,the states realized that they needed a new document and a new,more powerful government.In 1786,the Annapolis convention was convened.The results,three years later,was the Constitution,which created a more powerful central government while also maintaining the integrity of the states.By learning from the failure of the Articles,the founding fathers created the founding document of a country that has become both the most powerful country in the world and a beacon of democracy.
Clearly,there is much value in things that are unsuccessful.There is much to be learned from a failure and those who focus on success will miss out on valuable lessons.On the other hand,losers who learn value from the failure and apply effectively to later activities can actually be called winners.
