George Stephenson was a great English inventor.He was born in 1781in a poor family .He
had to start working when he was only eight years old .He became a helper to his father at the age of 14.When he was free,he spent a lot of time learning about engines.He often took one to pieces and studied each piece very carefully.Though he couldn’t read or write at that time ,he was a very good worker.When he was 17,he began to learn English letters .He had lessons from a young teacher.Every day after lang hours of hard work he walked a long way to the teacher’s home .He could write his own name for the first time on his 18th birthday.In his life ,Stephenson invented a lot of things .Among them the greatest invention was the train .Today when people are traveling by train from one place to another around the world ,they will think of the great man.
