Stefanie Sun----Holds the World of Mandarin Pop in Her Hands

Since she hit the music scene in 2000 ,Stefanie Sun Yan Zi has made great strides in the music world .Her phenomenal career has taken her from Singapore to Taiwan ,Hong Kong to China ,where her popularity sky-rocketed .When her first album won many awards ,including local radio station FM 93.3’ Most Promising Artiste accolade ,many predicted great things for her .
Her career soared as high as her famous lilting vocals ,and to date ,she has over 33 awards to her name .Her meteoric rise in the Mandarin pop music scene seems to have inspired many more Singaporean artists to travel overseas .
Morst of her albums are titled in both Chinese and English .Although her native language is Teochew(潮汕话) ,she sings almost exclusively in Mandarin and English with the exception of her song “T’inng Oh Oh ” where she sings in Mandarin about a traditional Teochew song her grandmother used to sing to her ,which is in Teochew .
After releasing seven albums in three years ,she took some much-needed time out .In 2003 ,she decided to take a one-year break from making music ,and returned in late 2004 with her eighth album titled Stefanie ,which has been flying off the shelves since its release .She also started her own company ,Making Music ,during this sabbatical .
“Great changes have taken place in my life .Who knew me walking in the street when I was a student ” she said in an interview overseas .Stefanie may not consider herself a pop diva ,but undoubtedly ,she has the world of Mandarin pop in the palm of her hand .
