Hi,Jack,I have heard of your problems in learing Chinese.You don't have a very standard Chinese pronounciation,but it can be acceptable.When I learnt English at the very beginning,I didn't pronounce English well,either.If so,you can try to listen to some CCTV news,even you can't understand them very well.But it's helpful.And I will advice you to practicing more and more even sometimes you will make some mistakes.You said that you can't identify some Chinese character.You can keep remembering these characters to solve the problem. As to the Chinese cluture,it's a long-term way to study,so you can always keep an eye on it and accumulate your knowledge.
