求翻译 Do you know the old ways of keeping tima?
Before clocks were invented, people told time by looking at the sun. They could tell it was the middle of the day when the sun was directly overhead in the sky. They also knew when it was morning or evening. But they could not tell the time at night. It was also difficult to see the sun on cloudy days. The Egyptians (埃及人) invented sundials over five thousand years ago. A sundial is a circular disc (圆盘) with numbers where the sun’s shadow (影 子) falls on it. The shadow on the sundial moves to point at different numbers as time passes. About three thousand years ago, water clocks were invented by the Egyptians. A water clock is a bowl with a hole in the bottom. Water drops through the hole slowly as time passes. There are lines on the side of the bowl that are used to tell time as the water level drops. Hourglasses were invented over five thousand years ago. At first, an hourglass was a bowl with a hole in the bottom. Water dripped (滴下) through the hole slowly as the day passed. Marks (记号) cut into the side of the bowl were used to tell each hour. Later, hourglasses that used sand (沙 子) began to be used. Sand poured from the upper glass bulb to the lower one, telling time.
Questions: 1. How many old ways of telling time are mentioned in the passage? 2. How did the first hourglass tell time?
