well...outsiders appearing in marriage relationships are normal "byproducts" of modern society,and are,actually,in my opinion,bound to appear during the evolution of human society,due to the direction of "more freedom and equality" in which our society has been developing since ancient times,and,perhaps more importantly,human nature,which can be explained through evolutionary psychology.

1.Freedom brings chaos,these people are part of the chaos brought by freedom in that freedom can lead to inflation of one's desires thus lowering moral standards,and leading to betrayal
2.(1)Breakdown of feudal social system opens up oppotunities for free(and thus easier)romance.Studies show that people tend to value whatever it is that's "hard earned".If two are bonded by marriage against their will,but in the end fall in love,the relationship's sure to go better than one that's achieved through mere flowers and wine.
(2)Feudalism also makes it very difficult to divorce.Studies also show that inreversible desisions tend to be more satisfactory compared to those that can be changed easily.Modern marriage is valid by law instead of by god,so easy,clean disengagement makes marrying an outsider very possible,then while the original marriage is already flawed(the possibility refered to in the paragraph above),the person may rethink his(her)decision and end up having an affair.
3.It is obvious that it's part of human nature to want to have as many sex partners as possible to ensure maximum possiblilty of the individual's genetic information's being passed down to the next generation,though having an affair may not produce offsprings,the individual's instincts cannot acknowledge that.
