8]We should not be surprised that students may not like games or group work.In a study of secondary school students,Vigna and Martin (1982) reported that 84% of the students preferred to work alone. As known to us that previous educational experience,as well as culture plays an important role in student learning style preferences. It is only natural that students’ preferred styles may not be the highly recommended styles rooted on pedagogical grounds.
Then should students be asked to abandon the styles that they feel comfortable with or should teachers try to match learners’ preferred styles? Some people hold that to provide the best condition for learning, teaching styles should be consistent with learning styles. However others argued that adapting teaching styles to learner preferences may not be desirable, because education requires making a balance between the society?s needs and individual needs.I agree with the latter view, therefore,I suggest that both teacher and learner styles be expanded.
