I believe everyone here may have heard a story about a mother frog.
A mother frog once blew herself up angrily,asking her kids:“Am I as large as the ox?” The small frogs yelled:“Please do not blow up anymore,mum,or your stomach will explode!”
The mother frog was indeed a tragedy,not for that she was too proud,but that she was so blind to compare her disadvantage to others’ advantage.
I was once like the mother frog.
As one of the best schools in my city,my high school attracts most of the best students,and thus the competition here is rather fierce.Tom’s been studying electricity since primary school,Amy writes subtle poems,John has a good command of Chemistry,Steve has got brilliant sense of mathematics.Everyone seems to have his own strength,except me.What I could see is my weak points and other people’s advantages.I have been holding the idea that I am not outstanding at all,until one day when I heard what my friend said to me.One day,after I broadcasted Words and their Stories,a VOA program,as usual,he said to me,“wow,your voice sounds like the real VOA broadcaster!”That suddenly started my thinking.“Oh,I do have my own strength though I fail to realize that!” Before that,I,have been hiding in shadows of other peoples’ brilliances and have lost myself,not even taking a thorough look at myself.I have opened one eye to my weak points and closed the other to my advantages.
It is the fact that people easily tend to sing the praise of the strong,admiring their wonderful performances instead of seeing back themselves through.People shall never be so blind to themselves like that mother frog.We shall not only know our weak points as the mother frog knew she WAS smaller then the ox,but also we ARE stronger than others in some ways as the mother frog SHOULD have known that she swam much better than an ox.
To discover yourself is an important ability in the rough road of growth.No one is born perfect and brilliant as no one is God.So make a thorough look at yourself is a must for the young,so we will be clear about our advantages and disadvantages.Knowing our advantage helps us make full use of it to encourage us to face the difficulty in the long road of life.And knowing our disadvantage is good for us to avoid any possible mistakes,unhappiness,or even failures.
If I were the mother frog,I would knew that though I was smaller than the ox,I may not blow myself up for the impossible size,instead,I may lead a happy life in the small pond with my kids and never would be threatened by that self-exploded danger.
So,let us discover ourselves and seize our advantages,develop them and finally we’ll find the proper position in life.

假如我是这只青蛙妈妈,我就会知道,就算我比牛小,我也许不会为了让身体有更大的码子而鼓吹自己,相反,我会带着我的孩子在小池塘里过幸福的生活,绝对不会让自己陷入身体自我爆炸的危险之中.
那么,让我们发现并抓住我们自己的优势,开发它们,并最终找到合适的位置.
