minutes to collapse as an enormous landslide composed in over 6
180 million cubic metres of rock tumbled down the right bank. As the
wave poured down the valley, it swept three high-level bridges and 7
obliterated the town of Sesai, killing their 1000 inhabitants. The 8
wave was already 50 meters high when reached the Kere River 9
over two kilometers away. The Massa disaster bore a striking resemblance
to the Ryshkyk tragedy of 1949 which 500 people had been killed 10
by a wall of water which had overtopped the dam abutments.
