The typical formula used to determine the necessary volume of water or flow rate to apply is as follows:
Gross need= (Net need for ET leaching)/((WAE/100))
ET stands for evapotranspiration and is discussed in Section 3.15.The value of WAE must account for the DU,evaporation losses,and a reasonable estimate of management (timing).
Example

Formula
Gross=Net/(WAE/100)
Gpm =(Gross inches)X(Area in square feet)/(Hours X 96.3)
Gross=1.5 in.(75%/100)=2.0 in.needed
Gpm =(2.0X40’X40’)/(4hr.X96.3)=8.3gpm
上面的net会不会是网?因为文中"must apply a net of 1.5 in."这里的是否应该解释为需要有1.5英寸的滤网?
